During the War and after Armistice, Reg was regularly deployed to the YMCA for signwriting duties at the Rest Camp at Port Said, Palestine and, from May to July 1919, to Zagazig, in Lower Egypt.

The YMCA organised regular performances by touring concert party bands such as the Whiz Bangs and the Nomads, singalongs with local school children, lectures from visiting academics, Sunday and evening services, the pictures, games and competitions and finally, welcome demobilisations.

Reg allowed his humour free reign in creating dozens of chalkboards to advertise these events which informed but also, vitally, lifted troop morale.
